I believe I'm standing next to the hootch seen behind the deuce and a half at the second ford.
Note the bulging right breast pocket--a paperback concealed therein. And the sweatband. When working in the heat and humidity--even though I'm all bundled up so this must have been in the Fall when it was a lot cooler in the morning and afternoon--the sweat poured off one's cranium into stinging eyes. Below, three stages of rice production in our valley. Left, the fallow paddy. Center, farmers and water buffalo plowing the flooded ground to soften it up for planting. This water is loaded with human fertilizer. Just remembering the rank smell makes me glad this is not scratch and sniff internet. Right are families planting the sprouts.
